IS REMAPPING MY CAR SAFE?
The engine's power is improved and optimised during our re-mapping procedure, but only within safe limitations. Less gear changing is another benefit of more power. To handle the effects of wear and model variations, manufacturers must incorporate tolerance into the engine's component parts.
Although the amount an engine can be pushed during a remap varies from engine to engine, a quality remap from a reputable tuner will never come close to reaching the boundaries of component failure.
You'll see that the leading tuning companies have all developed vehicle enhancements with comparable results. Be wary of tuners that make exaggerated claims; either they are lies intended to fool the average customer, or the engine is being overworked and will become unreliable.

ARE YOUR REMAPS CUSTOM OR GENERIC?
The truth is that there is no such thing as a generic map. We could not just use any tuned file on any vehicle, as implied by the term "generic". Every tune remap we apply has been custom calibrated for your vehicle make, model and drivetrain. We only apply tried-and-tested, safe, and proven solutions for stage 1 and the majority of stage 2 files. Why? Because we are aware that it is safe and effective.
People actually intend to ask, "Is it a live remap?" No, in a nutshell. But why would you require a live remap? A live remap typically takes place with the car on a dyno. Only vehicles with significant modifications need this (excluding breathing mods).
A common misunderstanding is that a map that was not created live or on the dyno is bad, which probably originated in some "know-it-all forum." Simply said, this is incorrect. On the other hand, your car will not benefit much from an unknown source map file purchased on eBay.
As previously noted, all our files are specifically calibrated for each of the vehicles we offer, and they have all been dyno developed and road tested to ensure safety, prove gains, and produce results with a reliable tune. Keep forum discussions in perspective.

WILL A REMAP VOID MY WARRANTY?
Certain manufacturers' diagnostic tools may be able to identify a remap. Many forward-thinking manufacturers turn a blind eye to the presence of a good remap since they understand that a properly enhanced car can only ever be advantageous to them. The official position of the majority of manufacturers is that if a modification results in a problem with the vehicle, only the part of the vehicle affected will not be covered by warranty; the entire guarantee will not be unilaterally cancelled.
Our best advice is to bring your car back to us so we can flash it with an original file if you ever need to return it in for warranty work. By doing this, we can lessen the likelihood that the remap will be detected.
It usually depends on the dealership if a manufacturer will cancel your warranty because of a remap or not. It is extremely unlikely that a remap will be considered or investigated for vehicles with aftermarket warranties.

DO I NEED TO TELL MY INSURANCE COMPANY?
We encourage you to notify your insurance provider of any modifications made to your car. More and more insurance firms are recognising our economy enhancements and not penalising their consumers for saving on fuel. If required, we can provide a certificate of conformity.

DO YOU HAVE A DYNO?
At Mapmycar, we cover stage 1 remaps and occasionally Stage 2 remaps. A dyno is not usually required for this level of remapping, though. The reason for this is that a comparable model vehicle was remapped while our remapped files were being developed and tested on a dyno.
As a result, we have already stress tested our remaps' performance figures on a well-maintained vehicle and verified that they work as advertised. There is no need to dyno test the file again for stage 1, as the donor car was identical to yours. If a dyno is required for stage 2 depends on whether there are any variations in modifications.
Although we do not have a dyno on-site, we can recommend other companies who do. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU DO WANT TO DYNO TEST YOUR VEHICLE, YOU HAVE A PRE-MAP DYNO BEFORE YOUR CAR IS REMAPPED TO SET AN ACCURATE BENCHMARK.
In order to make sure the remap performs as intended, we do before and after road tests on vehicles as part of our service. In some cases, we may also be able to data-log your vehicle.

WILL A REMAP IMPROVE MY FUEL ECONOMY?
This is typically only an advantage of remapping a turbo diesel car, however a remap will ultimately optimise the engine. Consequently, under typical driving circumstances, it is common to anticipate greater fuel efficiency.
If you expect to be able to drive aggressively while still saving 20% on fuel, your expectations are unrealistic. Most of our customers see a 5% to 15% improvement in fuel economy under normal driving conditions.

WHY ARE VEHICLES NOT MAPPED LIKE THIS FROM THE FACTORY?
Manufacturers limit a vehicle's performance for a variety of reasons. As an example, consider the warranty lifespan. It is in the best interests of a manufacturer to ensure that their vehicles under perform in order to reduce the number of warranty claims during the warranty period. It also allows them to increase the length and mileage of a warranty.
Manufacturers are increasingly cutting costs by limiting the number of engine sizes available and are instead using different versions of the same engine. This allows them to save money on research and development while also charging more for a vehicle with a higher power output.
For example, the Ford Transit Custom is available in three horsepower levels: 100, 125, and 150. They do, however, share the same engine, transmission, and drivetrain. The interesting thing is that all of the versions can produce 180BHP. They simply charge more for the more powerful models.
Manufacturers must also keep in mind that their vehicles are sold in countries with varying tax brackets, insurance groups, and environmental conditions. As a result, they require a single universal map to cover all scenarios while ensuring maximum vehicle sales.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH MY CARS SPORT MODES?
Typically, the different driving modes only change your throttle mapping. Some vehicles also increase steering weight and tighten the suspension.

WILL I LOSE MY REMAP IF MY CAR GOES IN FOR A SERVICE?
If you take your vehicle to a main dealer for service and the dealer needs to apply a software update to your vehicle, you may lose your map. If you do, we will reflash the modified file onto your vehicle for free as part of our LIFETIME SOFTWARE WARRANTY * See terms and conditions.
